Who are Childcare courses for?
The early years foundation stage (EYFS)ย sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries, and school reception classes.
Theย Statutory Frameworkย for theย Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)ย
Theย Statutory Frameworkย for theย Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)ย sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. The current framework came into effect onย 1ย September 2021. Inspectors across the UK use this framework for the basis of their inspections.
The EYFS will cover requirements by the following inspectors:
- Ofsted (England)
- Care Inspectorate Wales (Wales)
- Education Scotland (Scotland)
- Early Years Teams (Northern Ireland)
The safeguarding and welfare requirements (Section 3) are given legal force by Regulations made under section 39(1)(b) of the Childcare Act 2006 andย cover the steps that providers must take to keep children safe and promote their welfare.
โProviders must ensure that all staff receive induction training to help them understand their roles and responsibilities.ย Induction training must include information about emergency evacuation procedures, safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety issues.ย Providers must support staff to undertake appropriate training and professional development opportunities to ensure they offer quality learning and development experiences for childrenโ.
โ Section 3 (3.20) of the Childcare Act 2006.
