Moving and Handling in Early Years Settings

Moving and handling is defined as any transporting or supporting of a load – something which you will find yourself doing on an almost daily basis in an early years setting! Because of this frequency, moving and handling is something you need to understand. This course will look at how the body works when moving and handling and the legal background. It will also examine the importance of risk assessments and will ensure you know how to lift and lower safely and without injury.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  • To understand the body in relation to manual handling
  • To understand the law around manual handling
  • To understand the importance of risk assessments
  • To know how to lift and lower safely
