Biography

Jackie Pool is an occupational therapist, dementia care champion at QCS & visiting lecturer at the University of Winchester. She is an approved Alzheimer's Society Trainer with extensive expertise in dementia care.

Jackie’s contributions to the dementia care field are remarkable. She actively participated in the reference group for the National Dementia Strategy and was commissioned by Skills for Care to develop the national dementia qualification framework (QCFs), demonstrating her deep involvement in shaping dementia care practices.

As an accomplished author, Jackie is renowned for creating the Pool Activity Level (PAL) Instrument, a validated tool widely used for assessing the cognitive and functional abilities of individuals. She has also authored the book ‘Reducing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias,’ published by Jessica Kingsley.

Throughout her career, Jackie has focused on enhancing the knowledge and skills of the dementia care workforce to have a tangible impact on the quality of care provided to individuals with dementia. Her specialties include dementia care, environmental design, activity engagement, and leadership in dementia care settings.

With her experience as an occupational therapist, she has held influential positions within prominent health and social care providers. Furthermore, Jackie is recognized as a distinguished speaker at national and international conferences, and her expertise is showcased in her numerous published books and articles on dementia.

In addition to her practical contributions, Jackie is actively involved in academia as a researcher at the Universities of Manchester and Exeter. She has collaborated with esteemed academics from Bangor University on a ground-breaking study that assesses the impact of cognitive rehabilitation on individuals living with dementia.

Jackie’s exceptional achievements have earned her multiple awards and accolades. In 2011, she was honoured with the ‘National Dementia Care Award’ for her outstanding contribution to dementia care. In 2020, she received recognition from the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) for her remarkable career accomplishments.
