What Training Can Be Funded and What Can’t

How to access LDSS Funding

The Learning & Development Support Scheme (LDSS) reimburses employers for specific, pre-approved items only. If it isn’t on the official list, it isn’t fundable.

What is fundable

  • LDSS-listed qualifications and courses published by DHSC/Skills for Care (e.g., Leadership programmes, Level 2–5 regulated qualifications). Check the live list before booking.
  • Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (successor to the Care Certificate) – reimbursable up to the published cap per learner.
  • Skills for Care leadership learning (e.g., Lead to Succeed, Well-Led, Leading Change Improving Care)—again, only where listed and within the cap.
  • Selected topic qualifications (e.g., dementia, autism, learning disabilities, medicines, diabetes, falls, stroke, oral health), each with a maximum reimbursement and eligible awarding bodies.

What isn’t fundable

  • Training not named on the LDSS eligibility list.
  • Apprenticeship learning (use the levy instead).
  • Regulated clinicians’ CPD (e.g., nurses/AHPs).
  • Backfill, travel or other costs beyond course/qualification fees.

Claim rules (need-to-knows)

  • Employer must provide ASC services in England, employ non-regulated staff, and keep ASC-WDS up to date.
  • Claims window: 3 months from course completion; for qualifications, claim 60% at start (after payment) and 40% on completion.
  • Proof of payment and evidence (course/qualification, provider, awarding organisation, certificate) are mandatory.
  • The funding pot is capped—late claims risk missing out.

How CareTutor helps

Most short CPD eLearning isn’t on the LDSS list, but it still underpins compliance and inspection readiness. We:

  • Map your roles/risks to LDSS-eligible items (so you claim what you can).
  • Provide CPD-accredited courses and SmartRefresh™ for efficient, auditable refreshers.
  • Supply training-matrix exports, certificates and assessment data aligned to evidence requirements.

Build your leadership and compliance training plan:

Start with the official LDSS eligibility list, then talk to CareTutor about delivering the three Skills for Care leadership programmes — Lead to Succeed, Well-Led, and Leading Change Improving Care.

We’ll help you integrate these LDSS-funded leadership courses with our CPD-accredited eLearning to keep your teams compliant, confident, and ready for inspection.
