Understanding Performance Management

Module Overview

The module is delivered through one interactive morning session delivered by our Instructor via a Zoom webinar.

Understanding Performance Management has been developed by Skills for Care to support managers and aspiring managers in adult social care. Effective performance management is central to high quality care. When managers feel confident in recognising strengths, addressing concerns and supporting staff development, services are better placed to achieve consistent quality.

This programme provides a clear introduction to the performance management cycle and gives practical guidance on recognising different types of performance, giving feedback and supporting staff growth. Managers will be encouraged to reflect on their own practice and be supported to apply new skills in their day to day work.

Understanding Performance Management is suitable for anyone working in Health and Social Care who holds a management role or wishes to progress into one. This includes team leaders, supervisors, deputy managers, care home managers and others who want to strengthen their management approach.

Cost: £112.50 + Vat

Funding: Adult social care employers in England can claim funding through the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS).

Module Breakdown:

To understand the full performance management cycle and the processes used to manage different types of performance
To understand disciplinary and grievance procedures, recognise common causes of poor performance and identify ways to minimise them
To explore practical strategies that support improved performance
To recognise approaches to managing and retaining high performing staff
To understand how to give constructive feedback and manage difficult conversations with confidence
To recognise the importance of workplace cultures that encourage confidence, responsibility and accountability
To understand the value of effective role modelling, coaching and mentoring in the development of staff
