New Mandatory Course – Duty of Candour

Transparency within social care is crucial to ensuring the well-being of individuals and maintaining trust with their loved ones.

We are excited to announce the launch of our new Duty of Candour eLearning course. This interactive training program will emphasise the importance of openness and honesty, the ability to apologise with tact and will cover how to identify and respond to notifiable safety incidents.

Mandatory Learning Area

The Duty of Candour is a mandatory learning area, as it applies to every health and social care provider that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates.

Here is an extract from CQC Regulation 20:

“The duty of candour requires registered providers and registered managers (known as ‘registered persons’) to act in an open and transparent way with people receiving care or treatment from them. The regulation also defines ‘notifiable safety incidents’ and specifies how registered persons must apply the duty of candour if these incidents occur”.

See Regulation 20 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. is a mandatory course under Care Quality Commission

The CQC will be checking to see whether social care providers have carried out this training and assessed the competencies of their staff following this

What is the Duty of Candour?

The duty of candour is a general duty to be open and transparent with people receiving care from you.

This module provides a comprehensive overview of the Duty of Candour and its specific implications for notifiable safety incidents in social care settings. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the legal requirements and ethical considerations surrounding these incidents.
