There are currently 4.9 Million people diagnosed with Diabetes across the UK.
World Diabetes Day focuses on raising awareness for this condition and saving lives by growing early diagnosis.
It takes place on November 14th. This is an annual worldwide event which is dedicated to raising awareness of diabetes. Each year this event is proving to be internationally effective in spreading the message about diabetes and how we can treat this condition.
There are a number of events and activities that take place during this day to help raise awareness such as:
- Sporting events for adults and children
- Meeting and public lectures to spread public information
- Exhibition and conferences
- Television and radio programmes
- Leaflets and poster campaigns
Why is this so important?
More people than ever are at risk of type 2 diabetes. If nothing changes, Diabetes UK predict that 5.5 Million people will have diabetes in the UK by 2030.
