Stress Awareness Month 2025: #LeadWithLove
Every April since 1992, Stress Awareness Month has been a key opportunity to raise awareness around the causes, effects, and management of stress. This year’s theme, introduced by The Stress Management Society, is #LeadWithLove , a call to action encouraging compassion, empathy, and kindness in every interaction.
Â
What Does #LeadWithLove Mean?
#LeadWithLove urges us to treat others and ourselves with understanding and care. Whether it’s a small act of kindness or a larger community effort, leading with love helps to reduce stress, promote mental well-being, and develop healthier relationships.

The Importance of Mental Health Awareness for Service Users
In social care, stress and mental health struggles aren’t always visible, especially among service users who may already face barriers such as disability, chronic illness, aging, trauma, or social isolation. Stress Awareness Month is an important time to highlight their mental health needs and create environments where they feel safe, seen, and supported.
Why This Matters:
- Vulnerable Populations: Many individuals in social care settings face higher risks of anxiety, depression, and emotional distress due to factors like loss of independence, grief, or lack of social connection.
- Hidden Stress: Service users may not always express stress in obvious ways. Behavioural changes, withdrawal, or frustration can often be signs of deeper emotional strain.
- Quality of Care: When we prioritise emotional well-being, we don’t just provide care, we offer dignity, trust, and humanity.

Leading With Love in Social Care
#LeadWithLove in social care means placing emotional and mental health at the heart of every service interaction. Here’s how:
- Listen with Empathy: Give service users space to express themselves without judgment. Sometimes, simply feeling heard can significantly reduce stress.
- Promote Routine and Reassurance: Consistency helps service users feel safe and grounded, especially those living with dementia, autism, or anxiety.
- Encourage Self-Expression: Support creative outlets like music, art, journaling, or talking therapy, which can help individuals process emotions and reduce stress.
- Recognise Small Wins: Celebrating personal achievements, no matter how small, helps boost confidence and positivity.
